Milan, August 9 (LaPresse) – From June 15 to August 8, firefighters carried out 42,281 interventions for wildfires and vegetation fires, 6,441 more than in the same period last year. In the past week alone, the National Fire Corps teams conducted 4,511 operations. The highest number of fires was recorded in Sicily, with 898 interventions. Other heavily affected regions were Puglia (810), Campania (691), and Lazio (674). In the last week, the National Fire Corps’ aerial fleet performed 69 firefighting missions, while ground teams worked a total of 6,548 hours combating the fires.
