Milan, 14 August (LaPresse) – Two Italian mountaineers died today in an accident on Castore, a peak in the Monte Rosa massif. The alarm was raised this morning after the pair, a man and a woman whose identities have not yet been released, failed to respond. The two had spent the night at the Quintino Sella refuge at an altitude of 3,585 metres in the municipality of Gressoney-La-Trinité. The search began with an initial flight by the SA1 helicopter, which found nothing. Subsequently, the Cervinia SAR team, in collaboration with the Alagna Valsesia SAR team, conducted the search using satellite communication and provided useful information for a series of flyovers that led to the identification of the area and the discovery of the bodies of the two mountaineers. The two bodies were taken to Champoluc. The identification and reconstruction of the accident are being carried out by the Cervinia SAR team.
