Naples, August 20 (LaPresse) – The funeral of Marah Abu Zuhri, the 20-year-old Palestinian girl who arrived in Italy from the Gaza Strip during the night between August 13 and 14 aboard an Italian Air Force aircraft, was held today in Pontasserchio, a district of San Giuliano Terme in the province of Pisa. She passed away at Pisa hospital due to severe malnutrition.

According to COGAT, the Israeli Defense Ministry body that coordinates humanitarian affairs in Gaza, the young woman was suffering from leukemia. The funeral ceremony was led by Pisa's imam, Mohammad Khalil, and attended by various political and institutional representatives, including Palestinian Ambassador Mona Abuamara, Pisa’s prefect Maria Luisa D’Alessandro, and Tuscany’s regional president Eugenio Giani.

“In this moment of deep sorrow, I stand by her family, struck by a tragedy that touches us all,” said Governor Giani, who also expressed “my sincere condolences and full solidarity with the Palestinian people, who have been forced for months to live under the constant threat of violence.”

Giani also voiced “full trust and utmost respect for the work of the medical staff at Cisanello Hospital, who received and cared for Marah. Tuscany is proud of their dedication and professionalism. Tuscany will continue to be a land of welcome, peace, and humanity.”

The local Palestinian community was widely represented, with around 500 people attending the ceremony to support the girl’s family and her mother, Nabila.
