Rome, Sept. 3 (LaPresse) – "With deep regret and a strong sense of responsibility that has always distinguished us, Società Volpiano Pianese announces the decision to withdraw its Under-14 team from the Super Oscar Tournament."

This was stated by Massimo Gariglio, president of the club whose thirteen-year-old player was assaulted by the father of an opposing player during a youth tournament in Collegno, Piedmont.

"It is a painful choice, but one made out of the desire to fully understand what happened and what is still happening, as well as to preserve the peace and growth of our team group, which has been severely tested by recent events. Our club has always firmly believed in the values of sport: fairness, respect, and fair play are the principles guiding our daily work with the boys. For this reason, when such values are so seriously violated, we believe it is necessary to stop and reflect," the statement reads.

"We would like to thank the organizing committee and all the clubs in our movement that have shown support and solidarity in these hours: a concrete sign of unity that confirms how the sports community can react responsibly in the most delicate moments. Volpiano Pianese will continue to commit itself to promoting a sport that is truly a school of life, respect, and growth, because youth football must remain a place of joy and education, never fear or violence," Gariglio concludes.
