Above all, Israel is doing everything possible to return all the hostages held in cruel captivity by the murderers of Hamas.’ Israeli President Isaac Herzog wrote this on X after his audience with Pope Leo XIV. ‘Israel,’ Herzog continues in the post, ‘longs for the day when the peoples of the Middle East – the children of Abraham – will live together in peace, cooperation and hope. Religious leaders and those who choose peaceful paths must unite in calling for the immediate release of the kidnapped, as a first and fundamental step towards a better future for the entire region.’
