Vatican: Cardinal Becciu's appeal trial begins

Vatican City (Vatican), 22 September (LaPresse) – Cardinal Angelo Becciu's appeal trial began this morning in the new Courtroom in the Vatican. At the centre of the case is the management of Holy See funds and the sale of the London Palace. Five hearings are scheduled for this week. In the first instance, Becciu, who has always professed his innocence, was sentenced to five years and six months' imprisonment. There are 10 defendants in total. The Court will be presided over by Monsignor Alejandro Arellano Cedillo, Dean of the Roman Rota, assisted by two lay judges.
