Budapest (Hungary), 26 September (LaPresse/AP) – Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has stated that Hungary will continue to purchase fossil fuels from Russia, despite requests from US President Donald Trump. Hungary remains one of the few countries in Europe to continue purchasing oil and natural gas from Moscow after Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Trump has called on all NATO countries, including Hungary, to stop buying Russian oil, arguing that doing so could end the war between Russia and Ukraine. Orban told state radio that he recently told Trump that giving up Russian energy imports would be an economic ‘disaster’ for Hungary. ‘I told the US president that if Hungary were cut off from Russian oil and natural gas, immediately, within a minute, Hungary's economic performance would fall by 4%,’ the prime minister said. ‘That means the Hungarian economy would be on its knees.’
