Milan, 15 Nov. (LaPresse) – "Yesterday, I responded to the press for the first time after a hearing, and I was not the only one to notice the absence. An apology accompanying the filing of the sit by the three former defence lawyers of Sempio would have been welcome. Loyalty, respect and transparency would have suggested it. I would like to remind the distinguished heads of the Brescia offices that on the morning of the searches, on 26 September, I had yet to enter Dr Venditti's home when, at 9 a.m., his reputation had already been destroyed by the unified networks, so much for discretion." This was the response of Domenico Aiello, lawyer for former Pavia public prosecutor Mario Venditti, to the note from the Brescia Public Prosecutor's Office, signed by Attorney General Guido Rispoli and Prosecutor Francesco Prete, following the statements made yesterday by Aiello himself after the review hearing. ‘I have read and agree with every word of the reply addressed to me by the Attorney General and Chief Public Prosecutor of Brescia, but everything must be put into context with what is happening,’ the lawyer continued. ‘I too am convinced that, just as defence lawyers have a sacrosanct duty to prepare, study, read everything and remain anchored to the findings of the case file, the same obligation should govern the public prosecutor. The duty of loyalty, probity and, above all, discretion. I gladly endorse any call for discretion; these are standards that must always be respected.’ ‘I firmly believe that falsehoods and approximations should not constitute grounds for unprecedented attacks on a former magistrate with no criminal record and a 44-year career of integrity, and not exactly in the muffled rear ranks,’ the lawyer continues. ‘Yesterday, I insist, would have been the right time to apologise and take a necessary and responsible decision, demonstrating sensitivity and a sense of jurisdiction,’ concludes Aiello.
