Rome, December 24 (LaPresse) – "When I entered the Strip, there was devastation everywhere. They say that 80% of the infrastructure, the buildings, were destroyed, it's true! Perhaps even more. Even those that remained standing and did not collapse are riddled with gunfire. There are signs of war everywhere. Broken windows, bricked-up doors. Life has become even more complicated. But despite this, people preferred to stay in their homes or even build a tent next to their destroyed house, rather than be displaced elsewhere. We saw thousands of tents, one after another, often flooded, invaded by mud. On the sea, on the beach, you see garbage everywhere." Thus, the Vicar General of the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem, Monsignor William Shomali, told Vatican media. Shomali also emphasizes: "The spotlight has long been on Gaza these days, but the West Bank, another Palestinian territory, has also suffered greatly in recent years. Especially in the northern West Bank, in Jenin and Tulkarem, there are two refugee camps that have been emptied and destroyed, housing 40,000 displaced people. The lack of permits to work in Israel and the lack of clients and job opportunities have caused hardship and left hundreds of people unemployed, thus pushing many families into poverty."
