Campobasso, autopsies on mother and daughter who died at Cardarelli scheduled for Wednesday

Campobasso, 29 Dec. (LaPresse) – Autopsies on the bodies of Antonella Di Ielsi, 50, and her daughter Sara Di Vita, 15, who died within a short time of each other between Saturday evening and Sunday morning after being admitted to the Cardarelli Hospital, are scheduled for Wednesday morning. The forensic examinations were ordered by the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Campobasso as part of the investigation into the case. The bodies, already seized, remain under the exclusive authority of the judicial authorities.

The autopsies represent a central part of the inquiry, aimed at determining the exact cause of death and verifying the possible presence of toxic substances or other factors triggering the suspected severe poisoning. Meanwhile, the investigative activity of the Mobile Squad continues, with medical records, health reports, and documentation of previous emergency room visits by the mother and daughter in the days prior to the worsening of their clinical condition already acquired.

Investigators are also examining the family and dietary context, with food items seized from the Pietracatella residence. The investigation, which involves five doctors on duty in the Cardarelli emergency department as suspects, includes several possible charges, such as multiple involuntary manslaughter and negligent personal injury, and is supported by specialized clinical and toxicological assessments.

Additionally, examinations have been carried out in Rome on the father, Gianni Di Vita, currently hospitalized at the Spallanzani Institute, and checks have been conducted on the elder daughter, 19, who is asymptomatic. Only the results of the autopsies, together with toxicological analyses and a full reconstruction of the healthcare pathway, will make it possible to determine precisely what caused the double tragedy and whether there are any potential liabilities.
