Bologna, 9 January. (LaPresse) – The Bologna Assize Court has upheld the life sentence for Giampaolo Amato, former Virtus doctor, accused of killing his wife Isabella Linsalata, 62, and his mother-in-law Giulia Tateo, 87, who died in 2021 from poisoning 22 days apart. The court upheld the “appealed sentence”: when the ruling was read out, Amato, who had been standing, sat down, slumping over. The court ordered a reduction in compensation to his wife's sister, Anna Maria Linsalata, who was a civil party to the case. The 66-year-old was ordered to pay the costs of the trial: according to the charges, the former ophthalmologist killed the two women with a mixture of drugs. The reasons for the ruling will be filed in 90 days.
