Milan: Lara Comi acquitted on appeal of corruption charges, sentenced to one year for EU fraud

Milan, 15 January (LaPresse) – The Milan Court of Appeal has acquitted former Forza Italia MEP Lara Comi of corruption and false invoicing charges in the “soup kitchen” trial, for which she was placed under house arrest in 2019 and sentenced to four years and two months in the first instance in October 2023. The sentence for defrauding the European Union on MEPs' reimbursements was reduced to one year with a suspended sentence and a £500 fine, with the aggravating circumstance offset by the mitigating circumstance of having fully compensated for the damage.
