Askatasuna: 3 arrests and 24 reported

Milan, 1 February (LaPresse) – Three arrests and 24 reports by the police for the clashes that took place yesterday in Turin. Following attacks on law enforcement officers, during which about a hundred officers were injured, the Digos (Special Operations Group) of the Turin Police Headquarters arrested a 31-year-old and a 35-year-old Italian man in flagrante delicto, held responsible for the crimes of resisting and assaulting a public official. A 22-year-old man from the province of Grosseto was arrested in flagrante delicto for aiding and abetting in the personal injury of a public official on public order duty during demonstrations: the young man was identified, through the analysis of several videos, as one of the members of the group responsible for the violent attack on a member of the Padua Mobile Police Unit. The 22-year-old was also reported for violence against a public official for the same acts, having been filmed on another occasion throwing blunt objects at the police, as well as for robbery, as part of the group that not only injured the police officer but also took his shield, U-bot and gas mask. During the violent attacks on the police, State Police officers also managed to arrest 24 people, who were taken to the Turin Police Headquarters where they were fully identified and reported on various counts for resisting a public official, carrying improper weapons, misrepresentation and failure to comply with the measures of the authorities. Various items used for disguise were seized from these individuals, as well as objects capable of causing harm, such as stones (kept in backpacks), wrenches, slingshots and knives. Yesterday's national demonstration, called in response to the eviction of the “Askatasuna” headquarters on 18 December, saw the two groups that had set off from Porta Susa and Porta Nuova stations rejoin, at around 4 p.m., in Corso Cairoli, the group that had set off from the Palazzo Nuovo university headquarters, made up of university collectives and most of the social centres from across the country. The march, which reached a total of 20,000 people, then continued towards Corso San Maurizio.
