Rome, 19 February (LaPresse) – ‘It was a very fruitful and productive meeting. First of all, I would like to express, on my own behalf and on behalf of my office, our deepest condolences to the families, the many families, not only Swiss, but also Italian, French and from other countries who have been affected by this tragedy, and our sincere sympathy to all those who have been injured, to their families, many of whom are being treated in Italy.’ These were the words of Rome's chief prosecutor, Francesco Lo Voi, after the investigative summit held in Bern with Swiss investigators on the New Year's Eve fire in Crans Montana. The meeting was also attended by deputy prosecutor Giovanni Conzo and public prosecutor Stefano Opilio, who is in charge of the case opened at Piazzale Clodio. The meeting with their Swiss colleagues is the first step in the execution of the international letter rogatory initiated after the massacre. ‘I would like to thank the Swiss authorities,’ explained Lo Voi, "for organising this meeting as the first step in the execution of the letter rogatory, which today saw an agreement on the possibility of enhanced cooperation in the execution activities, including, for example, the selection of documents that may be of interest to the Italian judicial authorities and which have already been collected together with numerous other pieces of evidence by the Sion Public Prosecutor's Office. These documents can therefore be collected and selected with the participation of Italian investigators. All this will be done on a reciprocal basis, meaning that the findings made by Italy during the investigations carried out by the Rome Public Prosecutor's Office will also be made available to our Swiss colleagues upon request, should they need them.
