Rome, 24 February (LaPresse) – The verdict is expected between June and July for the four Egyptian agents accused of the kidnapping and murder of Giulio Regeni, the researcher from Friuli found dead in Cairo, Egypt, on 3 February 2016. The trial, which had been suspended since October, resumed today following the ruling of the Constitutional Court. The Court of Assizes of Rome has appointed a new technical consultant for the defence of the accused. The confrontation between the parties is expected on 8 June. On 23 and 24 June, in the bunker courtroom of Rebibbia, the closing arguments of Deputy Prosecutor Sergio Colaiocco will be heard. "I don't think it has happened very often that a court-appointed expert has had to stand behind a screen without even being able to give their name or show their face. Despite what people in Italy and Europe may think, Egypt is not a safe country, neither for witnesses, experts nor consultants. And it certainly wasn't safe for Giulio Regeni." These were the words of Alessandra Ballerini, civil lawyer for the Regeni family, after the trial for the death of Giulio Regeni was postponed until June for the closing arguments of prosecutor Sergio Colaiocco and the defence lawyers.
