Rome, 2 March (LaPresse) – Exactly one month after the introduction of the new access system to the Trevi Fountain, 229,896 admissions were recorded, of which 217,597 were full-price tickets, 3,499 were residents of Rome or the Metropolitan City of Rome Capital, and 8,800 were other free admissions. The total revenue of €435,194 will be used to support free admission to Rome's civic museums for residents of the capital and the metropolitan city, as well as the maintenance and protection of the heritage. "These figures show that it is possible to combine the protection of an extraordinary monument with its full accessibility. Finally, Romans can return to visit it without overcrowding and, thanks to the resources collected, they will also be able to enjoy free admission to Rome's Civic Museums. We are proud to have introduced a system that reinvests every resource in the care of our heritage and that permanently strengthens access to culture," said the Mayor of Rome, Roberto Gualtieri. The results of the first month with the new entrance to the Trevi Fountain confirm that this was the right choice. It is a management model that guarantees funds for the protection of our assets and provides visitors with an authentic experience, significantly better than in the past, when chaos, degradation and insecurity reigned. Finally, thousands of Romans and residents of the province have returned to visit the monument: before, they gave up, but now, without paying and without queuing, they can enjoy this extraordinary place, as well as free entry to 12 civic museums in Rome. This is the kind of tourism we want: sustainable, compatible, leaving more than it found in the area," said Alessandro Onorato, Councillor for Major Events, Sport, Tourism and Fashion for Rome Capital.
