Milan, 20 March (LaPresse) – P.M., the driver of the Tramlink that derailed in Milan on 27 February, killing two passengers and injuring 50 others, is reported to have been on the phone until “12 seconds” before the tram crashed at 50 kilometres per hour into the building on the corner of Via Vittorio Veneto and Via Lazzaretto. This is reported by Corriere della Sera and La Repubblica, citing ‘examinations of the tram driver’s mobile phone’ carried out by local police investigators coordinated by public prosecutors Elisa Calanducci and Corinna Carrara. The experienced ATM driver, who is under investigation for causing a disaster, manslaughter and multiple counts of causing bodily harm through negligence, is said to have been on the phone in a call with a colleague for 3 minutes and 40 seconds until 16:11 and 13 seconds, whilst the collision is said to have occurred at 16:11 and 25 seconds.
