Rome, Mar 29 (LaPresse) – Ninety-one people were placed in preventive detention after attending an unauthorized demonstration this morning in Rome to commemorate Sara Ardizzone and Alessandro Mercogliano, the two anarchists who died in an explosion while preparing a device on March 19. Several dozen members of anarchist movements – the Police Headquarters reports – including participants from other provinces, had reached the Parco degli Acquedotti intending to hold the commemorative event for the two militants who died in the March 19 explosion. The initiative had been prohibited by a decree from the Rome police chief. The groups were blocked at various entrances by units from the State Police Mounted Department and by other organized law enforcement units. Ninety-one people deemed dangerous and suspicious, and after evaluating the grounds for preventive detention in agreement with the on-duty public prosecutor – given the refusal of many to identify themselves, some masked – were taken to the Police Headquarters offices for photographing and fingerprinting, and, where applicable, the imposition of mandatory removal orders.
