Bad weather, bridge over Trigno collapses on the Adriatic State Road between Abruzzo and Molise

Campobasso, April 2 (LaPresse) – The bridge over the Trigno River on the border between Molise and Abruzzo, on State Road 16, collapsed around 9 a.m. after three days of heavy rain. The failure occurred suddenly while checks were being carried out for a possible reopening to traffic. The structure collapsed in the middle. “Fortunately, the road was closed and no vehicles were passing, otherwise it would have been a tragedy,” confirmed Montenero di Bisaccia mayor Simona Contucci, who is heading to the site after a night of monitoring and inspections. The collapse disrupts one of the main connections between Molise and Abruzzo, with severe repercussions on traffic: in effect, the area is now divided in two. The situation remains critical amid the ongoing severe weather emergency affecting the entire region.
