Genoa, 3 April (LaPresse) – The incident that led to the stabbing, which took place in the heart of the city centre on Via Vernazza two nights ago and left a 20-year-old man injured, is believed to have stemmed from a dispute over the snatch theft of a gold necklace. The altercation began in a nightclub in the city centre, as reconstructed by officers from Genoa’s mobile squad who apprehended the two alleged perpetrators, both very young. The reconstruction of events has clarified that the incident originated from a dispute between the victim and a friend of his, both Italian, and the two suspects. The argument began inside the venue and escalated into punches and slaps, spilling out onto the street where the two suspects, having obtained a weapon handed to them by an individual currently being identified, stabbed one of their opponents before fleeing. The young man, left lying on the ground with a serious lung injury, was rescued and rushed to hospital, where he remains in care. The police gathered initial witness statements, which helped narrow down the suspects, combined with footage from CCTV cameras in the area, which also captured some stages of the attack. The two perpetrators, one of whom already has a long criminal record, were tracked down and searched, leading to the discovery of the clothes worn during the attack and the knife that one of the suspects had discarded.
