Rome, 4 April (LaPresse) – Carabinieri in Tolentino, in the province of Macerata, have arrested a 39-year-old man on serious suspicion of domestic abuse, unlawful detention, aggravated sexual assault, revenge porn and possession of drugs with intent to supply, in relation to a 44-year-old Brazilian woman. The police intervened following a report that a friend of the woman had gone missing. The 44-year-old was found at Tolentino railway station in a clearly confused state. According to the findings of the investigation, the victim was allegedly forced to return to Tolentino under threat of the dissemination of intimate images. Once at the property, she was allegedly held captive and subjected to physical and sexual violence. The 44-year-old managed to escape by taking advantage of a moment when the man, a Libyan national, was distracted; he was subsequently tracked down at his home. During a search of the property, the Carabinieri found and seized 36 grams of hashish, a precision scale, packaging materials and €1,000 in cash, believed to be the proceeds of illegal activity. The victim was taken to Macerata A&E with various injuries, although her life is not in danger. The ‘Code Red’ protocol was immediately activated to ensure the woman received maximum protection and specialist care. The 39-year-old man, who refused to inform the consular authorities, was transferred to Ancona–Montacuto Prison, where he remains at the disposal of the judicial authorities.
