Bosco family: expert report commissioned by the Youth Court confirms parental incapacity

L'Aquila, 28 April (LaPresse) – The psychiatric and personality assessment filed yesterday with the Juvenile Court in L'Aquila has confirmed that the so-called “family in the woods” is unfit to be parents. The 196-page document was signed by psychiatrist Simona Ceccoli and describes inadequate parenting skills on the part of the Anglo-Australian couple living in Palmoli (Chieti). The consultant for the Juvenile Court of L’Aquila identified personality traits that negatively impact the developmental needs of the three minor children. According to the expert, whilst the parents do not lack determination and energy, the overall picture reveals profound vulnerabilities that have led to neuropsychological immaturity in the children. “The request for immediate family reunification or sole custody for the father appears to lack clinical and legal grounds,” states the report’s conclusion, which recommends that the children remain in the care facility in Vasto (Chieti), where they have been housed since 20 November. The psychiatrist emphasised that the children’s protection must involve a gradual transition into social and healthcare settings, overcoming the isolation in which they have grown up. However, the consultant does not rule out the possibility that Nathan Trevallion and Catherine Birmingham may regain their suitability to be parents.
