Rome, 4 May (LaPresse) – The President of the Veneto Region, Alberto Stefani, has declared regional mourning for tomorrow, Tuesday 5 May, when Alex Zanardi’s funeral will be held in Padua. The Governor has simultaneously ordered that all regional offices fly the Veneto flag at half-mast as a sign of condolence and solidarity with the family’s grief, as well as to share in the widespread emotion aroused by the passing of this great sporting champion. “Veneto is deeply affected by the passing of Alex Zanardi, a true champion of exceptional stature both in sport and in life,” emphasises President Stefani. By declaring a day of mourning to coincide with the funeral, Veneto intends to express the grief of the entire community and bear witness to the fact that the example Alex leaves behind will always be a model and an inspiration for generations of young people and those facing life’s difficulties. There is an even deeper bond, moreover, as the Zanardi family chose this region as their home; this has honoured our Region and makes it the custodian of the great message Alex leaves us: even in adversity, the final word always rests with the individual and their willpower, and solutions are the result of their courage." President Alberto Stefani will attend the funeral tomorrow at the Basilica of Santa Giustina in Padua.
