Rome, 22 May (LaPresse) – The Court of Cassation has overturned, without referral, the ruling of the Rome Court of Appeal which, last March, had upheld Brazil’s request to extradite former federal MP Carla Zambelli, a close associate of former Brazilian President Bolsonaro. Zambelli had been sentenced in two trials in Brazil to a total of over 15 years’ imprisonment. The former federal MP, represented by lawyers Pieremilio and Alessandro Sammarco, is therefore released following the Supreme Court’s rejection of the extradition request, according to LaPresse.
