Schillaci: ‘We will reach an agreement on the status of GPs’
Trento, 23 May (LaPresse) – ‘We will reach an agreement in the interests of citizens who want more accessible healthcare. It is important to reach an agreement whereby GPs spend part of their working hours in community centres’. This was stated by the Minister of Health, Orazio Schillaci, during a video link-up with the Trento Economics Festival, speaking about the reform of general practitioners. ‘The issue is also about having a different and more modern training programme for general practice so that GPs receive the same remuneration as other specialities during their training,’ added the minister. "It is not a question of form but of substance, which sees the GP as a central figure. The role of the GP has changed, partly due to the Covid pandemic. I have never criticised GPs and I believe they are central to the National Health Service, but we must look to the future by strengthening community medicine."
