Ebola, Schillaci: "There is no emergency in Italy"

Rome, June 4 (LaPresse) – “There is no Ebola emergency in our country,” Health Minister Orazio Schillaci reassured the Chamber of Deputies during Question Time. Schillaci also stressed that Ebola “is not a respiratory virus: it is not transmitted through the air like Covid.” He then highlighted the promptness of Italy’s healthcare response. “We responded in an orderly manner and in advance. On May 18, we issued a surveillance circular concerning cooperation personnel arriving from at-risk areas,” he recalled. “We have the Spallanzani Institute in Rome and the Sacco Hospital in Milan, both capable of carrying out tests for Class 4 pathogens. Hospital beds and laboratory diagnostic capacities across the national territory have been surveyed,” Schillaci added. He delivered a similar message regarding Hantavirus: in this case too, the minister said, the risk for Italy “has always been and remains very low. The situation is therefore under control.”
