Mafia: charges against Dell'Utri and Berlusconi over the instigators of the 1993–94 bombings have been dropped

Milan, 4 June (LaPresse) – The Court of Florence has dismissed the charges against Silvio Berlusconi’s former right-hand man, Marcello Dell’Utri, in the Florence Public Prosecutor’s Office’s investigation into the alleged hidden instigators of the Mafia massacres of 1993-94. The Florence investigating magistrate, Patrizia Martucci, ordered the dismissal of the case against one of the founders of Forza Italia, represented by lawyer Francesco Centonze, noting the absence of “concrete evidence” regarding “direct contacts or relations between Cosa Nostra and Silvio Berlusconi, and therefore Marcello Dell'Utri”. The dismissal order dates back more than five months. "The incredible story of the Florence investigation, however, demonstrates once again the state of the Italian justice system, and also confirms that the defeat of the March referendum was a huge missed opportunity for our country. As a citizen who has witnessed far too many judicial disasters at close quarters, I would like politicians not to shelve the issue: there are many knots to untangle, starting with the lack of genuine civil liability for magistrates. The justice system remains in a state of emergency. The banner of due process cannot and must not be lowered." So said Marina Berlusconi on the dismissal of the Florence investigation.
