Strait Bridge, among those under investigation also former deputy president of the Court of Auditors Miele

Rome, June 9 (LaPresse) – Corruption and disclosure of official secrets are the alleged offences attributed to Tommaso Miele, former deputy president of the Court of Auditors and former head of its regional judicial division for Lazio, who is under investigation by the Rome Prosecutor’s Office in the context of inquiries into the Strait of Messina Bridge project. According to investigators from the Carabinieri ROS, the Court of Auditors magistrate allegedly ensured a favourable stance in the legality review concerning the approval of the project’s final design, in exchange for the promise of future senior positions in public bodies or publicly owned companies after retirement. Among the possible destinations mentioned in the investigators’ reconstruction are the Antitrust Authority and other public institutions. The investigation also alleges that Miele maintained constant contact with a lawyer and an entrepreneur interested in the outcome of the procedure, providing confidential updates on the internal proceedings of the Court of Auditors. He is also said to have reported the positions expressed by other magistrates and details of plenary meetings in the Council Chamber. After the negative opinion issued on 29 October 2025, the former president is further alleged to have prepared a technical memorandum intended for the accountant of Stretto di Messina S.p.A., aimed at strengthening the company’s legal defence. The other two suspects, according to the prosecution, allegedly attempted to approach additional magistrates considered influential for the group’s interests.
