Ukraine, Crosetto: ‘The nuclear threat is back on the agenda; we thought it was history’

Rome, 9 June (LaPresse) – Due to the war in Ukraine, we are living ‘with a conflict that shows no signs of abating, making the narrative of war, unfortunately, part of our daily lives. The nuclear threat, which we thought we had consigned to the history books, is back in the news’. This was stated by Defence Minister Guido Crosetto in his address on Italy’s international missions before the joint Foreign Affairs and Defence Committees of the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate. ‘In Ukraine, “from a strictly military perspective, the conflict currently appears to be in a state of virtual stalemate. Analysts seem to agree that, if the current pace of operations continues, it would take ten years – that is, until 2036 – for the Russian Federation to complete its conquest of the Donbas, and several decades to achieve the conquest of the whole of Ukrainian territory,” Crosetto went on to emphasise.’
