Church, Italian Bishops’ Conference (CEI): "Promote the presence of women in leadership roles"

Rome, June 10 (LaPresse) – "The link between synodality and mission becomes evident when considering the complexity of the context in which our Churches are called to proclaim and witness Christ: only the differentiated co-responsibility of Christians can enable adequate discernment and commitment." This is stated in the guidelines for the implementation of the synthesis document of the Synodal Path of the Churches in Italy, approved by the 82nd General Assembly for the next five-year period. "The Synodal Path," the document reads, "has shown the urgency of renewing the form of parishes. The hope is that they may become places of real and vital relationships, where the differentiated co-responsibility of all members is experienced and ever more evangelical ways of relating between men and women are found, of articulating authority and participation, of valuing charisms and ministries." It continues: "The service of leadership of Christian communities will need to be rethought, in the face of forms of exercising authority that are still monocratic and clerical, not suited to a synodal and fraternal Church, promoting the co-responsibility of all the baptized, in order to definitively overcome the still persistent logic of clericalism, which, moreover, threatens not only ordained ministers but also lay people. Pastoral leadership in teams should be favoured, the coordination of the multiple ministries present, ensuring the presence of women in roles of authority and leadership."
