Naples, 12 June (LaPresse) – They are alleged to have falsified the timeline contained in the surgical report relating to the heart transplant performed on young Domenico Caliendo, in order to “put the personal interests of the authors first”, heart surgeon Guido Oppido and the second surgeon Emma Bergonzoni, ‘over the need to establish the truth, demanded by the public and, above all, by the parents, who had the right to full and immediate knowledge of the events that occurred on that terrible day of 23 December 2025’. This is stated by the investigating magistrate of the Court of Naples, Mariano Sorrentino, in the order imposing a ban on practising the medical profession for the two doctors at the Monaldi Hospital in Naples (12 months for Oppido, 7 months for Bergonzoni), whom the Naples Public Prosecutor’s Office accuses of the offence of ideological forgery. There are two passages in the surgical report drawn up on 26 December 2025 and relating to the heart transplant of 23 December 2025 that the Naples Public Prosecutor’s Office challenges regarding the two doctors: the one stating that extracorporeal circulation was initiated “when the organ procurement team reached Monaldi Hospital”, and the start of the cardiectomy ‘as’ the transplant team from Bolzano arrived in the operating theatre. Two passages which, according to the Naples Public Prosecutor’s Office and as agreed by the investigating magistrate in the order seen by LaPresse, were not reported correctly.
