Rome, 13 June (LaPresse) – The decision by the Milan Probation Court granting Alberto Stasi conditional release under the supervision of social services was served this morning, following a favourable opinion from the Public Prosecutor’s Office. Stasi will now be able to leave prison and serve the final years of his sentence outside. He had been detained in Bollate prison since December 2015. For over a year, he had been benefiting from a day-release scheme, for work-related reasons, which allowed him to spend part of the day outside the prison, with the obligation to return every evening. Having been definitively sentenced to 16 years’ imprisonment for the murder of Chiara Poggi, who was found dead in her home in Garlasco on 13 August 2007, Stasi still has around two years left to serve before his sentence ends, scheduled for 2028. The hearing before the Milanese magistrates took place yesterday morning in private, without the press being informed of his appearance. Stasi himself was also present in the courtroom and, according to reports, confirmed that he had accepted the final sentence handed down against him. This is one of the factors taken into account as part of the prisoner’s rehabilitation and treatment programme. Parole will allow Stasi to continue his rehabilitation programme outside prison, under the supervision of social services and in compliance with the conditions set by the judicial authorities.
