Mountains: four fatalities between the Matterhorn and Mont Blanc; seven deaths in 24 hours

Milan, 13 June (LaPresse) – Four climbers have been reported dead today on the peaks of the Matterhorn and Mont Blanc. One climber died on the Matterhorn: the body has been taken to Cervinia. Identification procedures are being carried out by the Guardia di Finanza mountain rescue service. The recovery of his climbing partner, who was unharmed, is currently underway. A second mountaineer died on the Brenva Glacier on Mont Blanc. The body – according to the Mountain Rescue Service – has been transported to Courmayeur. Identification procedures are being carried out by the Guardia di Finanza mountain rescue service. Two other mountaineers have died on Mont Blanc, on the Kuffner Ridge at Mont Maudit, on the French side. The operation is being managed by the French rescue authorities. The total number of mountain fatalities in the last 24 hours, including the three mountaineers from Trentino who died on Mont Blanc, thus rises to seven.
