Three rescue operations in the Aosta Valley; two mountaineers have died

Rome, 13 June (LaPresse) – Operators from the Aosta Valley Mountain Rescue Service, based at the Aosta Valley Single Rescue Coordination Centre (CUS), are currently coordinating three separate high-altitude rescue operations. The first concerns the Matterhorn, where the Swiss helicopter rescue service is currently in action. The second is taking place on the Brenva Glacier, on the Mont Blanc side, with the French PGHM responding by helicopter. The third operation, which was completed this morning, involved the Kuffner Ridge, on the Mont Maudit side, in the French jurisdiction. In this case, the French mountain rescue service responded: the outcome was the death of two mountaineers. Operations on the Matterhorn and at Brenva are still ongoing and are being managed by the CUS in constant contact with the Aosta Valley Mountain Rescue Service and with Swiss and French rescuers.
