Rome, Jan. 28 (LaPresse) – Piero Fassino has been unanimously confirmed as President of the Middle East Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, a post to which he was elected a year ago. ‘I am grateful for the trust that has been renewed in me,’ said Piero Fassino, ’and I will continue my commitment to ensure that the Council of Europe contributes to reopening the path to a peace solution based on the recognition of the rights of both peoples and on the peaceful coexistence of two States. ‘Today myself,’ Fassino concluded, ’I met the Palestinian and Israeli delegations at the Council of Europe to discuss initiatives useful for the full implementation of the ceasefire agreement, the return of displaced Palestinians and Israelis, a secure administration of Gaza and the reconstruction of the necessary conditions for a shared and lasting peace.
