Rome, 1 Apr. (LaPresse) – ‘We are shocked by the umpteenth brutal femicide, that of 22-year-old Sara Campanella, killed in the street by a fellow student. We want to express our deepest condolences to her family and friends. The institutions must do more to combat gender-based violence. There has been no regression in the culture of male possession, because this is the issue: we also have important laws that need to be further strengthened, but above all we must defeat a culture. Repression without prevention is not enough. And therefore there is a need for education and specific training, to make education about affectivity and differences compulsory in all school cycles, to eradicate before it is too late that patriarchal and criminal idea of a right to possess women's bodies and lives, which does not exist’. So says the secretary of the Democratic Party, Elly Schlein.
