Rome, April 5 (LaPresse) – "I am surprised that the Prime Minister continues to argue that the issue of tariffs is the Green Deal: it’s a way to deceive the Italians. The real issue is the lack of a strategy for innovation. The risk is that Italy will become subordinate to China and the United States, which are investing in technology and the automotive sector, while Meloni is applying the handbrake. What will she do at the European Council? Will she support Europe, or will she side with Orban and Poland to block countermeasures to Trump?"
This is what Angelo Bonelli, AVS parliamentarian and co-spokesperson of Europa Verde, said this morning on L'Agenda on Sky TG24.
"Meloni calls for calm, but clarity has been lacking. Trump had announced April 2 as the 'day of liberation' a long time ago. Liberation from what? Parmesan, Chianti? And yet the government was caught unprepared, without any strategy, while in two days, over 2 trillion dollars went up in smoke. This is not panic: we are facing a national emergency. This is the face of 'economic Trumpism,' which generates poverty – like in Argentina – and damages Italy, hitting our exports."
"Meanwhile, the government wastes time with polemics about Ventotene, while in Italy there are sky-high utility bills, 5.7 million people in absolute poverty, and no structural response. Trump is lying: there is not only a European surplus with the US. In services, we have a deficit of 103 billion, and in energy, a deficit of 70. We need a clear, strong, and united response. Meloni must choose which side to be on: with those defending the national and European interest, or with those playing ally to Trump, even at the cost of harming our businesses and our future," Bonelli concluded.
