Rome, 20 April (LaPresse) – ’Let's put it this way: the right wing is doing its job, which is to sell us brass as if it were gold, but everyone can judge for themselves by reading the joint Italy-US statement. Essentially, it alludes to three things: the purchase of arms and gas from the United States, no to the web tax and – a detail that few have noticed – open doors to artificial intelligence and cloud services for Italy and for Italy in the Mediterranean. In practice, our country could become the hub for these services in the Middle East.’ This is how Pierluigi Bersani, interviewed by Repubblica, commented on the meeting between Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and President Trump. ‘Trump is not looking for mediation, he is looking for openings to weaken Europe's negotiating position’. And when asked if the prime minister has handed herself over to Potus, he replied: ‘She has reaffirmed her subservience and opened the door to US domination: even a child would understand that taking Trump's announcement of his trip to Rome for granted gives him the opportunity to use Italy to slap or caress Europe. In my house, if you deal with the EU, you do it in Brussels. Unless Meloni converts to interpreting the Europeanist primacy of Rome, where the treaties were signed.’
