Healthcare, Zaia: ‘A step back on waiting lists or we will appeal to the Council’

Rome, 20 April (LaPresse) – ’The path to improving healthcare must be taken in synergy between the regions and the government, which is working well. I understand Minister Schillaci's concerns about waiting lists, which are shared by many governors. But the solution put forward leaves us perplexed: it gives citizens the false hope that a super inspector will arrive from Rome to solve the problem, when the root cause of the queues lies elsewhere’. This was stated by Veneto President Luca Zaia in an interview with Il Sole 24 Ore. It is noble for the government to address waiting lists, but instead of erga omnes regulations, it should use its powers to intervene where healthcare is not working and take over its management. Where things are working, as in Veneto, we are able to perform better,’ he added. ’If the decree goes ahead, I am ready to appeal to the Constitutional Court, as I have done with both centre-right and centre-left governments when I believed a measure was wrong.’
