Rome, April 23 (LaPresse) – "Pope Francis fulfilled his mission until his very last day, when he gave the Urbi et Orbi blessing and embraced the faithful in St. Peter’s Square, and summed up perhaps the most meaningful essence of his pontificate in the simple words whispered to his nurse: 'Thank you for bringing me back to the square'. He has been remembered by all: the world will remember Pope Francis as the pope of the people, of the least, the invisible, the poor, and of the physical and existential peripheries."
This was said by Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni during the commemoration of Pope Francis in the Chamber of Deputies in a joint session of Parliament.
“Pope Francis knew that with his voice he could give a voice back to those who had none,” she added. “And he did so even by breaking with convention, because he used to say you must not be afraid to go against the tide if it’s for a good cause. That’s how the Pope who came from afar managed to reach straight into the hearts of the people.”
