Rome, May 1 (LaPresse) – “In the context of the dramatic crisis still tearing the region apart, we once again express our condemnation of the 2023 terrorist attacks, our sorrow for the victims, and our solidarity with the families of the hostages still held captive, while reaffirming our firm opposition to all forms of anti-Semitism. We hope that the logic of conflict can be overcome in favor of a perspective of peace, reconstruction, and well-being, with full respect for human rights. In this regard, ensuring humanitarian access to the Gaza Strip and putting an end as soon as possible to the unacceptable suffering of the civilian population is of essential importance. Only a solution based on international law and grounded in the coexistence of two peoples and two states can lay the necessary foundation for building a future of peace and stability.” This is what President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella wrote to Israeli President Isaac Herzog on the occasion of Israel’s Independence Day. “Please accept, Mr. President, my best wishes for this important anniversary,” he added.
