Rome, May 8 (LaPresse) – “Workplace safety has always been a priority for the Government—we put it at the center of our action from the start, but we want to do much more,” said Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni during a meeting with trade unions on health and safety at work, held at Palazzo Chigi. “We introduced the so-called 'credit license', mandatory for companies and self-employed workers wishing to operate in construction sites. We authorized the hiring of 1,600 additional labor inspectors to significantly increase the number of inspections. We are encouraging companies to improve workers' health and safety conditions. But we’ve also acted on sanctions, both administrative and criminal, reintroducing the crime of unlawful labor supply, a previously decriminalized offense which has become increasingly common, often disguised through fake subcontracts and assignments. We’ve also adopted many other measures to combat heinous crimes such as labor exploitation and gangmastering,” Meloni added.
