Turin, 19 May (LaPresse) – Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni ‘had a telephone conversation late yesterday evening with the President of the United States of America, Donald J. Trump, together with the leaders of the United Kingdom, Keir Starmer, France, Emmanuel Macron, and Germany, Friedrich Merz, for consultations ahead of the announced phone call that President Trump will have today with President Putin’. This is according to a statement released by Palazzo Chigi. "The Prime Minister first reiterated Italy's support, together with its European and Western partners, for President Trump's efforts to achieve a just and lasting peace in Ukraine, emphasising the importance of an immediate and unconditional ceasefire,‘ the statement continued. ’The Prime Minister finally expressed his appreciation for the willingness shown once again by Ukraine in favour of dialogue and reiterated his hope that Moscow will seriously commit itself through direct contacts between leaders to negotiations leading to peace."
