Gaza, Schlein: "Government is silent, we take to the streets to stop civilian massacres"

Rome, June 7 (LaPresse) – "As political forces, we felt the need to gather the outrage of those who want to say enough to the crimes of Netanyahu's far-right government. Our government has always been very silent about the ongoing massacre in Gaza. And since Trump came to power, it has been completely mute. We all condemned Hamas' terrorist attacks on October 7, but the executive never followed with a condemnation of Netanyahu's crimes," said PD secretary Elly Schlein in an interview with Repubblica.
According to Schlein, the government "is betraying the diplomatic tradition of our country, which has always been attentive to the Palestinian issue."
"We are asking not to renew the military cooperation memorandum with Israel. And we insist that Italy immediately recognize the State of Palestine, as Spain has done and as France under Macron is preparing to do," she added.
Schlein also stressed that "there will be no room in the streets for antisemitism, against which we will continue to fight, as our history shows."
"The harsh criticism we make of Netanyahu’s actions is not antisemitism. We want two peoples and two states living in peaceful coexistence," she declared.
