Rome, June 23 (LaPresse) – The resolution presented by the Five Star Movement (M5S) in the Chamber of Deputies during Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s address ahead of the upcoming European Council was rejected by the House. The text, which had received a negative opinion from the government, was voted on in separate parts.
The Democratic Party (PD), in particular, voted against points 2 and 32 of the resolution proposed by Giuseppe Conte’s party.
In point 2, the M5S called on the government “to immediately halt the supply of armaments to the Ukrainian governmental authorities, while at the same time implementing humanitarian support measures and aid to the civilian population and, in the near future, to support the reconstruction process.”
In point 32, the request, “within the framework of achieving a lasting and permanent peaceful solution to the conflict, which can no longer be postponed,” was to “intensify efforts at the European level to find an effective solution to the issue of gas transit and supply, which does not a priori and for the future exclude possible cooperation with Russia, in order to ensure the containment of electricity and natural gas prices and the energy resilience of the European Union, which must be able to adapt to changing global geopolitical scenarios without being tied to specific energy sources in an almost monopolistic manner.”
Point 2 received 44 votes in favor and 255 against, while point 32 received 36 votes in favor and 261 against.
