NATO, M5S: "Tomorrow we will be in The Hague to say no to rearmament"

Milan, June 23 (LaPresse) – "Tomorrow, coinciding with the NATO summit to be held in The Hague, we too will be in the Dutch city to say no to the reckless increase in military spending that the heads of state and government of the Alliance want to impose on our peoples, against their will and against their interests. Yes, because this unprecedented rearmament is economically unsustainable and geopolitically dangerous: it will make our societies poorer and less secure because, on one hand, it will divert resources from healthcare, education, and welfare, and on the other hand, with the mix of the security paradox and a return to national power politics, it will increase the risk of new wars. History teaches us that security does not rest on the strength of arms, but on the courage of politics that builds dialogue, détente, and cooperation. That politics which is now dramatically lacking in Italy and all of Europe, but which we fight to keep alive in the conviction that it is the only way to build peace. Tomorrow in The Hague we will have a first political confrontation with the leaders of fifteen other European parties to lay the foundations for a European coordination against rearmament." This was declared by the members of the M5S delegation who will be in The Hague: the group leader in the Chamber Riccardo Ricciardi, the chairmen of the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committees of the Chamber and Senate Francesco Silvestri, Marco Pellegrini, and Bruno Marton, and the M5S group leader of the European Policies Committee of the Chamber, Filippo Scerra, and Senator Gisella Naturale.
