Rome, 17 July (LaPresse) – ‘The Meloni government has approved an agreement for Ilva that is a disgrace, a veritable state licence to pollute and cause illness, allowing Italy to be treated like a colonised country, where rules protecting health and the environment can be trampled on to attract foreign investors.’ ‘The AIA was approved on the day that the EU mediator opened an investigation into the failure to implement the EU directive on industrial pollutant emissions.’ This was stated in a note by the co-spokesperson for Europa Verde and AVS deputy Angelo Bonelli, who continued: "The Hague proposal approved by the Meloni government provides for the use of coal for another twelve years, without applying the European directive on industrial pollutant emissions. Is this what the government calls “green steel”? It is an insult to the intelligence, dignity and health of the Taranto community. The health impact assessment referred to by the minister has been underestimated, as admitted by the Higher Institute of Health itself."
