Rome, 19 July (LaPresse) – ‘Some prosecutors are clearly not giving up…’ Lega leader Matteo Salvini commented in an interview with Corriere della Sera on the Palermo Public Prosecutor's appeal against his acquittal in the Open Arms trial, which in any case, in his opinion, was not unexpected: ‘My lawyers were expecting the Public Prosecutor's move.’ ‘Honestly,’ he said, ‘my first reaction was a mixture of amazement and anger. Pissed off, even…’But then he adds: ‘My acquittal is contained in 268 pages. Solid and impeccable pages.’ He does not want to read another chapter in the clash between politics and the judiciary: ‘Politicised and left-wing magistrates are now a small, albeit fairly vocal, minority.’ But he criticises the opposition: ‘The trial began because of the left's vote in Parliament.’ In particular, he refers to the M5S, which at the time of the events was allied with the Lega but voted to authorise the proceedings: ‘For me, consistency, loyalty, honesty and courage are not just words, they are a way of life. Instead, they changed their minds just because I withdrew my confidence in Conte.’
