Rome, Aug 11 (LaPresse) – Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni spoke today by phone with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, who expressed sincere appreciation for Italy’s “fundamental” role in humanitarian aid and political support. According to a statement from Palazzo Chigi, Meloni reaffirmed Italy’s commitment to humanitarian efforts through the Food for Gaza initiative, including ongoing airlifts and the evacuation of over 150 children needing medical care. She also announced that more children requiring treatment will arrive in Italy soon. Meloni confirmed Italy’s readiness to contribute to Gaza’s stabilization and reconstruction and emphasized the need for a political process leading to a just and lasting peace in the Middle East based on the two-state solution. The two leaders agreed to meet again in New York during the UN General Assembly.
