Rome, 20 August (LaPresse) – ‘I am being called into question solely for fictional reasons. The dispute, which is transparent in its political motives, is entirely within the PD’. This was the statement made to Corriere della Sera by the former governor of Puglia, Nichi Vendola. The former mayor of Bari and PD MEP, Antonio Decaro, has repeatedly stated that he will not run in the regional elections if Vendola and Emiliano are on the list. ‘Because, from Decaro's point of view, it concerns the right to exercise real discontinuity with Emiliano's model of government,’ Vendola emphasised. ‘In any case, no one can claim the right to scrap other people's homes. It would be healthy to end this internal dispute as soon as possible and focus on discussing the future of the people of Puglia: what will we do about the climate crisis and the demographic winter? What kind of Puglia do we imagine?’ Vendola nevertheless confirms his intention to run. ‘It's quite clear.’ Any advice for Decaro? ‘No advice. I wish Decaro a little more sincerity and political courage…’
